Surprise! There is actually a celeb voter drive worse than “Vote or Die!”

Dear Elitist Sarcastic Celebs -

I get what you’re doing here but really?? This is SO not going to reach the Palin leaning swing voter. Alienating the independent base with pompous sarcasm is really not the messaging we need here.

Also, trying to appeal to the “youth vote” by insulting its intellegence (voter registration! Let’s spread it like Herpes! No really, that’s the message) makes for a terrible ad.

Yeah, I’m down with post-emotionalism and general snark. And yeah, I actually prefer that my politicians are smarter — more elite, if you will — than me.

But the average non voter isn’t and doesn’t and this is an election, not an episode of “The Office.”

Judge for yourself:

  • I get what you’re saying, but at the same time, much of the youth market really IS that dumb, unfortunately. Hell, most everyone is. They don’t understand that they’re being mocked because they think they’re in on the joke.

I’ve heard people say they won’t vote for Obama because he has purple lips. How stupid is that?

Yes, it’s elitist for celebs to think that they make that big of a difference, but here’s the thing: they do. And while that may cause many stupid 20somethings to be influenced to vote for the “cool candidate,” I’m okay with that because I’m voting for him too, for better reasons.

This whole election is an f-show.

  • As soon as I saw your headline I knew it had to be this video. I posted it on my Facebook page, hoping someone would “get it” and register/vote as a result.

You’re right it definitely doesn’t speak to the masses. It speaks to only a very few people. And if it gets one person to re-think — hell, even this conversation makes it worth it in my mind, then it’s not entirely a wasted pile of crap.

Speaking of dumb reasons not to vote for a candidate, someone at my local credit union (on Hawthorne!) said, “I’m not voting for Obama/Biden because it sounds to much like Osama bin Laden.” Yikes.

  • I’m not certain why I bothered watching it at all! So blatantly obvious and lame the outcome that I’m left wondering why anyone would watch this and go vote.

Can it be that voters are deemed to be this naive!…

Either way, I’m bored of the same old lame attempts to attract voters and the patronising way in which it’s ALWAYS done, as though voters are pre-adolescent, incapable of rational thought.

Arrr hell, what do I know, I’m a pompous Brit :)
